Roots & Foundation

A Legacy of Purpose

Born the youngest of twenty children to Joe and Inez Hughes in Little Rock, Arkansas, Richard’s early childhood moved him to Tyler, Texas. There, he was raised in the home of educators Napoleon “N. L.” and Espanola Davis, whose lifelong commitment to learning sparked his own enduring passion for education and service.

Growing up in a household centered on academic rigor and spiritual discipline shaped his conviction that structured support and high expectations can unlock the potential of every student.
